What Happens When an Organization Can't Agree on How to Address Its Cultural Diversity Turnover Problem?

A large organization is losing high-performing employees, especially newer hires and employees from underrepresented groups. Employee surveys also show declining trust in leadership.

The senior leader asks for answers.

HR points to compensation, retention incentives, policy, and manager compliance.

The DEI leader focuses on representation, belonging, bias, and psychological safety.

Senior managers blame workload and unrealistic expectations.

Then the People, Talent and Culture leader answers.

We have three different answers from different perspectives. My question is, Where’s the data beyond the employee surveys?"

We need to look at the entire people management ecosystem instead of isolated functions.

Let’s get the data needed to connect:

  • Turnover, promotion, engagement, compensation, and exit data
  • Barrier analysis results
  • Inclusion competency gaps
  • Management practices and workload
  • Career mobility
  • Team climate and employee experience
  • Structural barriers and legitimate business requirements
  • Cross-functional governance
  • Metrics and accountability

The key question shifts to “What is happening across the people management ecosystem, what are we doing well, and what needs to change?”

That is a key difference between a siloed approach to solving problems to efforts to address the problem from a bird's eye view.

The PTC professional treats turnover as an organizational people and culture system problem requiring diagnosis, governance, intervention, and accountability.

This systems approach is at the center of DTUI’s new People, Talent and Culture certification.

PTC is designed for professionals who need to think beyond traditional HR or DEI boundaries and understand how people systems, talent, culture, inclusion, and organizational accountability work together. They listen to people, coach, support leadership decisions, and serve as a trusted leadership team member. It's next-generation equity and inclusion.

If this work sounds interesting to you or you feel like you are doing this, but your credentials do not reflect it, then the People, Talent and Culture certification may be ideal for you.
