Virginia Romo – https://www.interpages.org/why-should-education-be-free-for-all/
If education at universities is subject to the market for free, the possibility is that it will end up under the state’s control, which can be detrimental to everyone. This is illustrated in the diagram below. If higher education was free, there would be a limited number of places for government to provide subsidies. It is known that when supply rises (supply of free university spaces in this instance), the demand also increases. This could lead to high demand since everyone is driven to attend the university, especially if it’s at no cost. This means that the economy will be affected by the shortage of graduates and prospective highly skilled employees in the coming years.
